to find a place

To find a place is Rahel Vonmoos’s vigorous yet tender enquiry into displacement – a topic which is both ancient and acutely contemporary.

Moving between silicone curtains four dancers investigate the physical, social, psychological and emotional aspects of displacement, whether voluntary or imposed by necessity, abduction, sense of belonging, disappearance or erasure of identity or memory.

Through the use of video projections, the dancers are joined by a further group of thirteen people. Together, they explore how displacement manifests itself in the body. How does place, time, age, history and memory affect who we are, how we perceive ourselves and where we feel we belong?

Rahel Vonmoos (CH/UK) creates a rich and powerful collage, merging movement with film projection that extend the imaginary field and a soundscape of text, languages and audio recordings that offer a further dimension to the work.

To find a place is a Compass 2015 commission by The Greenwich Dance & Trinity Laban Partnership.
