Over the next few weeks, before Summer Dancing begins at the end of June, some paragraphs will appear here. They are offered generously by dance artists in response to a request for provocations. Increasingly I think of dances as perfect rituals where the material, energetic world is stirred into action. Embodied selves are stepping up, transgressing, acting out into our universe and drawing untold matter into motion. Somatic practice has given us new depths of kinaesthetic understanding and new relationships with the ground, and space and one another. Questions now are: what do we do with that unraveling potential of the moving self? And what has that to do with performance?
