Graduate Lab and Graduate Intensive with Stephanie Skura 2014
Decoda is working in partnership with Independent Dance to bring graduates a fantastic opportunity to work with Stepahnie Skura, award-winning choreographer, director & teacher. The Lab and Intesive have been created for current final year dance students and new graduates, to support the transition from student to independent dance artist.
This year Decoda, Coventry University, and Independent Dance have joined forces to offer an extended 3-stage programme that can be joined at any or all of the stages.
It opens with an immersive weekend of workshops and talks by a range of dance artists and speakers, offered by Independent Dance at Siobhan Davies Studios, and continues with a 3.5 day choreographic and performance workshop with Stephanie Skura by Decoda at Coventry University.
It concludes with an opportunity to form a graduate collective, piloted last year under the name ‘Figure Eight’.
1) Independent Dance Graduate Lab 13-14 September 2014 | 10am – 6.30pm
This intensive weekend has been curated with the ID ambassadors, all of whom are independent dance professionals, to provide experiences and insights into a range of approaches to training, performing and making.
Workshops with key UK-based dance artists sit alongside talks centred on what it means to be an independent dance artist at this moment in time. Over lunch, which will be provided, you have time to talk further with workshops leaders, fellow graduates, the ambassadors, and additional guests.
On Saturday the ID ambassadors invite you to join them for a drink locally to network informally with each other.
2) Decoda Graduate Intensive 16 –19 September 2014 hosted by Coventry University | 10am – 6pm
The second part of this programme is a choreographic and performance workshop organised by Decoda at Coventry University. You will work to devise a series of performance scores with renowned U.S. artist Stephanie Skura. Multiple studios as well as access to props and technical equipment make for an immersive and expansive experience. The formal sessions will begin at 10am and end at 6pm (at 12 on the final day), but space is available to you from early morning until late evening. Lunch is provided and cheap digs lists can be recommended.
On the last morning ID and Decoda will facilitate space for you to organise your plans for stage 3.
3) A Graduate Collective and mentorship programme October 2014 till March 2015.
The extended programme draws on the principles of collective working and supports you as graduate dance artists to work together as you develop your interests.
You are invited to form a collective, facilitated by Decoda, enabling you as graduate dance artists to work together and in support of one another. The collective offers an alternative to the choreographer-led company model. This work has been developed through a pilot graduate project at Decoda in 2013 with Laurel Tentindo. You also have the option of working with a mentor, drawn from Figure Eight and the ID ambassadors.
