With Water: a durational installation by Hilary Kneale and Christian Kipp
Saturday 28th – Sunday 29th September 2013, 10am – 6pm, Ashdon Village Hall
He must remember to release gravity when he unfurls the next wave. Even the grasses seem to remember something, as they point towards the truth. ‘Water’, they say, ‘will always follow the line of least resistance’. Sometimes what he sees is not always what he means.
With Water is a long-term collaborative project between photographer Christian Kipp and performance artist and writer Hilary Kneale.
More information about the artists can be found on their websites Hilary Kneale and Christian Kipp.
The work originated in watery environments in some of the wilder places in Norfolk, Wales, Ireland and most recently Scotland. It has led to the making of a series of books of images and writings and a sculptural installation in the Lanchester Gallery, Coventry, conjuring up the essence of the wild places during Decoda Summer Dancing 2013.
During each period of collaboration in each new environment, Christian Kipp and Hilary Kneale take time to develop a physical relationship with the land before beginning to work, immersing themselves in the envrionment. They then continue to work through developing a visual, physical, sensory relationship to the land through walking, and exploring, texture, surface, scent, tide, nooks, crannies and in particular each landscape’s relationship to water, past and present.
For the next phase in this collaboration With Water will be shown in Ashdon Village Hall, September 28th and 29th, as part of Decoda’s vision to bring new work to rural communities.
Admission to the installation will be free – for more information email info@decoda-uk.org
